When he saw Zen Master, he asked the Zen Master, “Dear Zen Master, can you tell me if the bird in my hand is alive or dead?” Then, he smiled since he was very confident that the Zen Master couldn’t answer this question. To his surprise, the Zen Master also smiled and replied, “My dear student, if I say the bird is alive, you will squeeze your hand and it will die. And I will be wrong. On the other hand, if I say it is dead, you will release your grip and let the bird go. And I will be wrong too.” Thus, the right answer lies in your hand and I cannot answer,” said the Zen Master.
